IMPORTANCE OF AGRICULTURE IN INDIA
As we know India is an agricultural country. Yet for about 72% people out of total population living in rural area of the country it is the only source of income, and is a way of life. Therefore due to this fact it is clear that there is a wide scope of agriculture in India.
Indian economy is majorly dependent on agriculture, it accounts for 18% of India's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and provides employment to about half the population of the country i.e., about 50% of the population of the country is employed through agriculture.
This shows the scope of agriculture in the country and the never lasting scope of agriculture in India.
GRADUATION(BSc. Agriculture)
It is a 4 year bachelor degree programme provided by agricultural universities in the country.
Its is not a general degree programme but a professional degree programme as 7 % of the total education is practical in nature, which helps in developing the practical skills of the individual.
HISTORY OF DEGREE
Before 1998 the Bsc agriculture was integrated with veterinary science (BSc. Ag and AH) where AH stands for animal husbandary. But after 1998 ICAR seperated the AH course as BVSc. Although earlier BSc Ag was a three year course but lateron observing the broadness of the course it was extended to 4 years.
ELIGIBILITY
10 +2 with agriculture or PCB or PCM.
ENTRANCE EXAMINATION
Different UG entrance examinations are conducted by various state agricultural universities present all over the India , and an all India level entrance examination for all the universities is now conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) . This exam is commonly known as ICAR -UG entrance test and includes 15% seats of all the state agriculture universities and 100% seats of central agriculture universities.
HIGHER EDUCATION
- MBA-Agro Buisness Management is an ultimate option for number of children who have completed bsc agriculture. It is a two year specialised management course which focuses on management aspect of agriculture, especially in the field of marketing of agricultural goods.
- M.Sc- After pursuing the degree of Bsc agriculture one should go for Msc in any of the specialized subject in which he is interested such as Agronomy, Entomology, Soil science, etc.
- PhD- Phd is performed after Msc in more specialized manner after completing phd one can go towards research field and become agricultural scientist which such a valuable job in India as well as in abroad.
JOBS AFTER GRADUATION
There are
many job opportunities after bsc agriculture in both private as well as
in government sector due to wide scope of agriculture in India
Following are some
reputed jobs after graduation in agriculture:-
- · Agriculture Officer –Agriculture officer is gazetted officer, one should apply for the post of agriculture officer after graduating in the field of agriculture.
- Agriculture Field Officer- Agriculture field officer commonly known as AFO is a specialised officer in banks which deals with the agricultural financing and credits . By clearing the exam of IBPS-SO one should qualify for the post of AFO.
- Agriculture Development Officer- Agriculture Development Officer (ADO) is a Class-1 gazzeted officer, and works in the field of agriculture development in a region.
- Private sector- There are various private companies and organisations that recruit agriculture graduates on good wages because there is a good scope of agriculture.
- Entrepreneurship-This is a great option for the
one who is interested in settling his own business, government provides
subsidies to the entrepreneur who is
settling his own agricultural business, such as vermicomposting, mushroom unit,
etc
This shows how important is agriculture in India and wide scope of agriculture in current
time, as well as the huge demand of agriculture students in future, so it is always a good option for a student
to make agriculture as a carrer option, as demand of agricultural graduates are
increasing frequently.
